HaverSports’ success at first Stowmarket Triathlon
HaverSports celebrated a successful Sunday after hosting its first Stowmarket Triathlon on 22 September.
Held at the town’s Mid-Suffolk Leisure Centre, the event saw 145 athletes complete their choice of triathlon or duathlon, with an all-new run route for 2019.Winning the Sprint triathlon (300m swim, 18km cycle, 5km run) was James Reeder in an incredible 49 minutes 43 seconds, with the first woman across the line Shan Bendell in one hour 15 seconds.
Doubling the distance in the Sprint+ triathlon, Alistair Steele led the way in one hour 48 minutes 56 seconds, with the first woman home Helen Wing in two hours nine minutes 15 seconds.
Skipping the swim for the run – bike – run duathlon, a limited field saw Samantha Spencer triumph in the Sprint race in one hour 28 minutes 48 seconds, while the Sprint+ race was won by Craig Dearden-Phillips in two hours 21 minutes 46 seconds.
HaverSports director Jack Tappin said: “It was great to see so many athletes competing at Stowmarket, and the feedback we’ve had has been universally positive. It was our first time at this venue, so we’re keen to improve further to offer an even better Stowmarket Tri in 2020.
“With the tri season almost over, we hope that our athletes will be sure to join us on Sunday 6 October to sign off their season with HaverTri – the Adams Harrison Triathlon Festival!”
Anselm Gurney, General Manager of Mid Suffolk Leisure Centre, said: ‘Well done to Haversports for organising such a successful event, which should hopefully encourage even more entries next year’.
