HaverSports’ first Fritton festival off to a flyer!
Over four hundred triathletes enjoyed an open water swim, a scenic bike ride along the Norfolk-Suffolk coast, and a woodland run as HaverSports hosted the Fritton Lake Triathlon festival for the first time!
The popular event, held at the picturesque Somerleyton Estate, offered the chance to compete in Sprint, Super Sprint and Standard distances, with some brave souls taking on the Triple Tri challenge to conquer all three in one weekend!
First home in Saturday (15 June) morning’s Sprint race was Callum Stedman in one hour four minutes 47 seconds, with the first woman across the line being Tilly Anema, completing the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike ride and five km run in 1.09.54. That afternoon, the 400-metre swim, 14 km bike ride and three km run for the Super Sprint saw Toby Morrell cross the line first in 39.44, with the leading lady Jane Hannah in 46.25.
Sunday’s (16 June) Standard distance saw athletes tackle a 1.5km swim, followed by a 39km cycle and 10km run. Leading the way was Bruce Raeside in 2.04.51, while the award for first woman went to Sarah Osborne who finished in 2.26.50. Of those who completed all three events, the accolade for fastest male went to Chris Hall, with a total combined time of 3.51.52, with the gong for fastest female going to Jane Hannah, who went the distance in 4.29.19.
“It was great to see so many athletes competing across the three races, with 410 of them helping HaverSports to realise our ambition of hosting an open water triathlon,” said the organisation’s director Jack Tappin.
“The feedback we’ve had from athletes has been unanimously positive, and everyone seems to have enjoyed themselves, with over 60 taking part in all three races! Next up for HaverSports is St Eds’ Tri – the Greene & Greene Triathlon Festival on Sunday 11 August in Bury St Edmunds and in aid of Suffolk Accident Rescue Service, so we hope to host an impressive number of athletes there too!”
