RecoverRace success in 2017!

Some 300 runners took in the picturesque sights of north Suffolk to raise funds for the rehabilitation charity Focus 12 at the inaugural RecoverRace last weekend.

Hosted by the Highwaymans B&B in Risby, near Bury St Edmunds, the new HaverSports event saw runners compete in a half marathon, 12k and fun run races on Sunday 30 July.

Tony Bacon won the Focus ½ marathon with a time of one hour 20 minutes 28 seconds, with the first lady home Odette Robinson in 1.23.51. First to cross the finish line in the Focus 12k was Kyle Norris in 48 minutes, with Nicky Chapman the first woman to finish in 58.02. In the Focus 1.2 mile family fun run, Jake Hayward was the first boy across the line in seven minutes 11 seconds, with the leading girl Poppy Hudson in 10.14.

In total 136 athletes completed the 12k, 126 the half marathon and 24 the fun run.

HaverSports director Jack Tappin said: “It was great to see runners turning out for this new event in these picturesque surroundings, and the feedback we've had has been really positive. Hopefully we can bring RecoverRace back in 2018 and deliver and bigger and better event again.

Before then we have our next event where athletes can do more than just run at Mildenhall Tri – the Abbeycroft Leisure Triathlon Festival on Sunday 13 August. We hope that athletes will show their support and come and join us there next weekend!”

Tony Kimber, chief executive officer of beneficiary charity Focus 12, said “We provide abstinence-based, residential treatment for clients with addictions to alcohol or drugs. We receive no Government funding so events like this are hugely important to us, without the support and donations of the caring public we wouldn’t be able to help so many clients and their families. Addiction is an indiscriminate illness, that destroys the client and their family and we regularly see the benefits of community based, residential treatment and how it saves lives.

We have our annual reunion and 20th birthday party on Sunday 24 September at the Apex Bury St Edmunds, it’s open to all to come and find out more about what we do, there’ll be talks, entertainment, food and lots of fun, so please save the day and come and see us. More details will be available on our website and through our Facebook page, or email
